We are making good progress on our building programme - which is huge. The work involves a very large barn conversion and restoration for our home, a restoration of the building that will become the 2nd Gite - and then lots of external groundworks, terracing, footpaths, lighting and a guest parking area.
At the moment we have one Gite avaialble (L' Etable) and the heated pool and guest terrace is now useable (Just some flagstones to lay and a bit of blockwork and rendering)
There are still some building works ongoing but these do not affect customers in the Gite - and we reflect this when we offer the rate, with a discount when guests make an enquiry
You can visit the facebook page by clicking on the link on this page and see up to date pictures and progress reports
We have had numerous guests stay with us and the feedback has always been excellent.

Ignore the availabilty schedule for now - we will only complete this when both Gites are finished. Email us for availabilty!
We are also creating one plot for Motorhomes and Caravans. This will have it's own power and water connections and will overlook the front Garden. It will only be available when the Gites are empty (Because of car parking), but guests will be able to use the pool and terrace areas. We will add details when the work is complete. This is an ideal stop over for those touring this part of France.
Well we've done it! We are now proud owners of Chez Pouvet.
We've started work to transform this collection of cottages, barns and out-buildings into our vision of a luxurious self-catering sanctuary set in the beautiful, tranquil Charente countryside. We are creating something really quite special, luxury gites in France!
Our planned outside facilities include outdoor pool, childrens' play area, bikes for hire and shaded cloisters for those moments of reading and relaxation.
The Gites are to be decorated and equipped to a luxurious standard.
Why we did it
After spending all of our working lives in the hospitality industry and holidaying every year in France, staying in Villas, we decided to grab hold of our dreams and make the move.
We had always holidayed in the South of France but this was out of our league to buy anything, so, the search was on. We discovered Poitou Charente, Frances second sunniest region and fell in love. It's real French life here and after years of busy corporate life the perfect place to live and to greet guests who want to get away from it all.
Ian is developing the property and following his genes, his Dad was a builder, and I continue to commute to the UK to work – yes it is possible! [Our nearest airport is Limoges, 35mins, serviced by the loveable Ryanair]
We want to create luxury gites for those who want to completely unwind. From bed linen to bathrooms, we're aiming for the best quality, with a pool and cloistered terrace to enjoy the weather. We'll also take care of those little things that are annoying on self catering holidays, such as providing cleaning materials and loo rolls so the only shopping you have to do is for fabulous regional products.
We've no regrets about the move, we're sure you won't have by staying with us when we're up and running.
Dying to meet you when we're done - phew!
Val & Ian
The map below shows where we are and the 100 mile radius circle gives an idea of what else is reachable.
Charente is a relatively easy place to get to, whether flying or taking the ferry, car or train. It is easily, and quickly, accessible whichever form of transport you choose to take.
Charente is well-served by airports - a direct flight from eleven cities in Britain will see you touching down at a regional airport (there are six in or close to the Poitou-Charentes) in less than two hours. There are more flights during the summer months but even during autumn and winter, there are regular flights during the week and at weekends.
Take the TGV from Paris Montparnasse station to Poitiers and on to Angoulême.
Approximate drive times from the major channel ports:
- From Calais - 7 hours
- From Cherbourg - 5.5 hours
- From Caen - 5 hours
- From St Malo - 4 hours
